Windows · Scrolling strip

Your windows, in one tidy row.

Every open window gets its own column. Nothing overlaps: the row slides to show the one you want. With the keyboard or your mouse wheel.

How it really works

Real app recording

Loose windows, as usual

Real recording of Make Mac Better with sample windows, not edited or sped up.

How it works

Three steps. That’s it.

  1. 1

    Open anything

Each new app joins the row, right next to the one you are using.

  2. 2

    It finds its place

Nothing overlaps or hides behind another window.

  3. 3

    Glide along

⌃⌥← / → to move between them; the row moves with you.

Windows

Made for your everyday.

What it is for

If you work with lots of windows (browser, editor, terminal, notes…) and spend the day hunting for them, the strip keeps them in order and always in view. It is the idea behind scrolling window managers (like niri or PaperWM), adapted to macOS without changing any system setting.

Widths that stay put

Each window keeps its width: ⅓, ½, ⅔, ¾ or full. ⌃⌥R changes it, so what is next to you does not jump around when you open something.

Stacks in a column

Put two or three windows in the same column (⌃⌥S), one above the other, and move between them with ⌃⌥↑ / ↓.

Stacks as tabs

⌃⌥G turns a stack into tabs: each window fills the whole column and you switch with a click on its tab, ⌃⌥[ / ] or ⌃⌥↑ / ↓. If the window is alone, it groups with the column on its left.

Overview and saved views

⌃⌥Space shows all your windows with thumbnails. Save a layout (“Work”, “Editing”) and bring it back in one click.

Shortcuts

Faster with the keyboard.

With a Windows keyboard: Ctrl = ⌃, Alt = ⌥, Shift = ⇧, Windows = ⌘. All can be changed in the app.

Questions, answered.

Do I have to learn shortcuts?

No. Everything has a button in the app and the menu bar; shortcuts are just faster and can be changed.

Does it change macOS settings?

No. It only asks for Accessibility permission to move windows. No system protection needs to be disabled.

Can I go back to how it was?

Turning it off puts every window back where it was.
